Not just wisdom…spiritual wisdom in business.
As I was contemplating on what to write about, I began to sit with the Lord. For me, sometimes, sitting with the Lord just means reading His word. I’ll begin to read and then something will stand out to me and I may begin to study a certain phrase or topic. Sometimes, the Lord speaks back to me right from the page. I want to share with you this scripture that God began to shout back at me and brought me to tears.
“Doom, rebel children!” GOD ’s Decree. “You make plans, but not mine. You make deals, but not in my Spirit. You pile sin on sin, one sin on top of another, Going off to Egypt without so much as asking me, Running off to Pharaoh for protection, expecting to hide out in Egypt. Well, some protection Pharaoh will be! Some hideout, Egypt! They look big and important, true, with officials strategically established in Zoan in the north and Hanes in the south, but there’s nothing to them. Anyone stupid enough to trust them will end up looking stupid— All show, no substance, an embarrassing farce.””
Isaiah 30:1-5 MSG
Looking at this as it pertains to business brought me to tears. The moment I read it, I could feel the heart of God for what is going on today. Let’s look at the same verse, but Isaiah 30:1a:
Woe to the rebellious children, saith the LORD, that take counsel, but not of me;
The Lord had Isaiah deliver a powerful message that packs so much power still today. There is a counsel that is not of God that appears to be true, important and big. There is wisdom being given and applied that isn’t spiritual. There are some “important” people strategically placed in the right positions, yet they are really all show. It’s FAKE. He defines people who take worldly council as rebellious. God is warning the people that they are not led by His spirit nor His wisdom.
Modeling Spiritual Wisdom in Business
There is a clarion call for those of us who will stand up in the marketplace and lead with spiritual wisdom and discernment. God is raising up voices in the business mountain that will not be afraid to say that prayer and communication with God is their biggest strategy for winning in business. Not just say it, but truly model it as a standard. God reminded me that it’s not just wisdom in business, but spiritual wisdom in business. It’s not just knowledge, but spiritual knowledge. It’s not just understanding, but spiritual understanding. See, the spiritual is implied because we are dealing with God-given wisdom, knowledge and understanding. The only way to deal with anything God gives is by the spirit because He is a spirit.
Paul reminded the church of Colossae that he was praying and desiring that they be filled with knowledge. Not just any knowledge, but the knowledge of His will in ALL wisdom and SPIRITUAL understanding. Do you remember what was going on in the city at the time that Paul released this letter? Paul was responding to the false teaching and heresy that was being spread among those who knew the true word of Jesus.
Colossians 1:9 KJV
When there is a counterfeit presented, there is no time to leave things implied. If we are called to model and teach, we are to move with the same urgency and clarity that prompted Paul to write from prison. We need to be filled with the knowledge of God’s will. Let’s just call it what it is, spiritual. This is the mission of this journal. To ignite the truth and to allow a space to grow in spiritual wisdom and discernment for those of us called to the marketplace.
I pray Colossians 1:9 over you today.
